Her big break came when her video ‘this is not my real face’ video went viral. Nigerians couldn’t stop laughing for weeks. This video set her off and her videos on YouTube have insane views. She has transcended being a social media star into a bonafide star.
2. Olajumoke Orisaguna
Talk about a rag to riches story. Olajumoke Orisaguna was virtually a nobody until that fateful Sunday when she stumbled onto the set of TY Bello’s photoshoot for the British-Nigerian rapper Tinie Tempah.
Her life changed overnight from covering This Day Style, earning a modelling contract, moving into a serviced apartment, and going to a finishing school. Her story was picked up by several international news websites and she got interviewed on CNN.
Mayorkun got his big break this year after posting a video of himself singing to Davido’s hit song ‘Aye’. The DMW CEO noticed Mayorkun, and he got signed. Mayorkun has gone ahead to release two hit singles, and several features since his signing this year.
The famous and controversial crossdresser went from zero to hero thanks to the power of social media. Bobrisky didn’t blow up with Twitter or Instagram. He used a relatively new social media app SnapChat to make himself a household name virtually.
Bobrisky has approximately 60,000 followers on SnapChat and his videos regularly appear on Twitter. He is one of the most talked-about social media sensation of 2016. He is so big these days that he is presently on a tour of the UK and people line up to take selfies with him. A selfie with Bobrisky is worth £20.
Still a teenager, the quite animated Maraji (Gloria Oloruntobi) is one of the biggest names on Instagram these days. The 19-year-old is the queen of lip syncing on Instagram. From dancing to songs and lip syncing comedy skits, Maraji is the queen of perfect timing.
6. Wale Turner
Though still an upcoming rapper, Wale Turner got his big break on Instagram. He would upload videos of himself rapping in yoruba, and got noticed by some big celebrities, including Wizkid. Some even started campaigning for a record label to sign him.
Eventually he got signed by Royce Entertainment and has since released a successful single, he also performed at AY Live, all thanks to social media.
7. Segun Wire
This young chap blew up just weeks ago after a viral video of him saying he dreams of becoming a yahoo boy surfaced online. The video garnered thousands of views across social media, and the 9-year-old primary school student became an online sensation.
He went ahead to open an Instagram page and now has over 17,000 followers and counting.
8. Chidinma Okeke
Chidinma Okeke went viral this year and was a trending topic for weeks. Unlike the others, Chidinma blew up for a ‘not so right’ reason. The Ex Miss Anambra went viral after a lesbian sex video of the model leaked online. She was a top trending issue on Google search for weeks. Chidnma however tried to deny it saying her face was superimposed on the lady in the video.
