According to Punch, this was revealed by the country’s Police spokesman Johann Baumschlager, who said during a press meeting in Vienna, that the two Nigerians, a man and woman, were busted for being part of a criminal organisation which specialises in human trafficking, engaging in international prostitution trade which they execute with the aid of voodoo practices.
Baumschlager said the suspects forced at least “10 young Nigerian women into the sex trade in part by engaging a voodoo priest, who made them submissive through certain rites.”
The police spokesman said the enslaved women were threatened with voodoo spells and told they owe the traffickers 50,000 euros each. While the male suspect is cooperating with the police, the female denies the accusations.
This news comes just days after young Nigerian women who recently returned from Libya have narrated grueling stories of how they were tricked into prostitution. The women were given N19,650 each as support from the International Organization for Migration in Lagos.
However, their traffickers are yet to be found.
