Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg on Thursday announced that he and his wife, Priscilla Chan were expecting their second child, a girl, as he had hoped.
The couple’s first child, Max, is a year old.
“Priscilla and I are happy to share we’re expecting another baby girl!” Zuckerberg wrote on Facebook.
He added, “After our difficult experience having Max, we weren’t sure what to expect or whether we’d be able to have another child.”
In 2015, the couple announced that Priscilla was pregnant with Max and shared a moving story of how they had been trying to conceive for a couple of years.
The couple also noted that Priscilla had experienced three miscarriages before becoming pregnant with their first child.
In his Thursday post announcing that Priscilla was pregnant with the couple’s second child, Mark underscored the reason he had hoped the child would be a girl when noted that he and Priscilla had grown up with 3 and 2 sisters respectively.
“I grew up with three sisters and they taught me to learn from smart, strong women. They weren’t just my sisters but some of my best friends. They’ve gone on to write books, excel at performance, music, sports, cooking and their careers. They showed me how to compete and still laugh together afterwards.
“Priscilla grew up with two sisters and they taught her the importance of family, caring for others and hard work. They supported each other as first generation college students and in their careers in medicine and business. They have so many inside jokes — the kind only siblings can understand,” Mark said.
In a few months from now, Mark Zuckerberg will perhaps be due for another paternity leave according to Facebook policy. It may also be time to try out an artificial intelligence application, Jarvis, that the Facebook founder has been researching on, to welcome the new baby.
