According to witnesses, the woman who was dressed in a blouse and trousers was walking along the bridge when she suddenly climbed the rail and jumped into the lagoon.

Some people around the area immediately jumped into the lagoon to rescue her. Upon getting her out, they started to press her bloated stomach to expel the water that she consumed.

Another witness, Adewale, who was among those who rescued the woman said: “We were under the bridge, when suddenly the woman’s body dropped from the bridge. At first, we thought she was either pushed over or fell over by mistake. We had to jump into the river and went for her. That was how we rescued her.”
